God bless all these wonderful Moms and Dads who have
given a loving home to these little Yorkie Rescues.
Now, come see the photos and read the bios of these little dogs.
(each of these bios were read by the announcer, Shelly Ince Freed,
as the dogs were being led around the ring by their adoptive parents)
It's the Yorkie Rescue Parade!
Here is Barbara again, this time with Cody.
Barbara says this about Cody;
"Ric Ross brought Cody to me 2 years ago at the 2003 Yorkie Rescue Parade. We felt having a companion might help alleviate Cookie's separation anxiety. Cody's owner had contacted Ric to find a new home for him as his playmates (two other Yorkies) were picking on him and stealing his toys and treats.
Cody is very shy with other people. When someone's hand is held out to him he runs away. It took him a week to make up to me. Now he likes to sleep in my lap when I am sitting in my recliner chair.
Cody does bark a lot. He hears every little noise. I don't mind as I think he will scare away any burglars.
Cody and Cookie play together. He is usually the instigator. When he wants to play he does a funny little dance. His front feet go one direction and his back feet another. We call it his "break dance".
At walk time, in the morning he jumps up on the sofa beside me while I’m putting on his leash. We do a head bobbing routine and he nibbles my ear. I think he’s happy and secure now."

Cookie is being walked around the ring by Barbara Mahler, and this is what Barbara has to say about Cookie;
"In the year 2002, I was in desperate need of companionship having recently lost my husband and not long after, our 16 year old Yorkie. Ric Ross came to my rescue bringing Cookie to me in February of 2003. Cookie is now 10 years old.
Cookie's former owners told Ric that she had allergies and significant separation anxiety. Their work kept them away most of the time. Cookie had chewed all four of her feet until there was no hair on them. They felt she needed to be with someone who was home most of the time.
Ric told me Cookie liked to cuddle. I said, "That's the dog for me!" A change of diet improved the allergies. She is a very mellow little dog, friendly to everyone and gives kisses if allowed.
Cookie loves to play. For some reason all of her little toys are called "bunny". When you tell her to "find your bunny" she runs to find a toy to play "tug of war" or "throw and fetch". Cookie now has a companion to play with. Cody, a 5 year old rescue Yorkie came to live with us in 2003. And play they do.
Cookie and Cody are best friends."

This is Lynn Knox again, this time with her little Maddy.
Maddy was adopted right after the show last year by Lynn.
This is what Lynn has to say about Maddy;
"Maddy came to Ric as one of two dogs who had a severe food agression problem. She still has a food agression problem with my dogs, but it's pretty much a controlled thing nowadays.
Ric had to separate Maddy from her friend and he placed them in separate homes. Maddy is quite content and satisfied as long as everyone knows she's the 'Queen of the Castle'."

Rusty was adopted by Lynn Knox.
Rusty is being presented by Lynn Knox. This is what Lynn has to say about Rusty;
"When I saw his little face in the picture Ric sent in his “Yorkie Alert” I knew I had to try and adopt him. I called the Rancho Cucamonga facility to put a hold on him, but was told they did not take holds, it was first come, first served. I was there when they opened on his available date and had no trouble adopting him. I could not take him home that day as he had to be neutered (and as it turned out, he had to have two teeth pulled. They were the last two teeth he had -- poor thing!!!).
I took him to my vet for a follow-up checkup and he was given a clean bill of health. Weighing in at 3.4 pounds, he is the smallest Yorkie I have had. He and Joey have become good friends and share the dog beds. Rusty had no hair when I adopted him, and it has been really slow growing in. He’s so cute when he looks at you with that funny little face, you just can't help smiling. He brings lots of smiles to my face every day.
God Bless Ric Ross and his Yorkie Alerts!!!"

This is Ric Ross with his rescue, Timmy.
This is what Ric says about Timmy;
"Timmy is approximately 14 years old. Timmy came from a neglectful and abusive home situation. A concerned neighbor called the Police and reported his owner for abuse. His owner was sent to jail and Timmy went to the Shelter.
He had to be clipped down because he was infested with fleas and had mats to the skin. He also had many raw spots and was scratching almost continuously. I took him to the vet and he was diagnosed as having an airborne allergy. He was given medications and started to get better immediately. His mental wounds however, took a great deal longer to heal. He was very shy and afraid and didn't even know how to play. He was a little lost soul.
I tried for several months to find him a home but since he's an older male, with the beginnings of Cataracts, and structurally built like a little pot-belly pig, no one wanted him. He's a very sweet boy and has become my "Velcro Dog"... I finally gave up looking for a home for him and made him part of my family.
I've had Timmy now for almost 3 years. I've never once regretted keeping this little old man. Although still a little shy of strangers, Timmy has now learned how to play and loves his new playmates. He has been accepted by all 4 of my other Yorkies and is a very happy little dog now."

Yorkie Rescue Parade
Just before the Best of Breed judging, we had a very nice little Yorkie Rescue Parade.
This is always a heart wrenching as well as heartwarming event.
We had 6 entries in the parade this year.
You can read all about them and see their photos below.
Joey
Joey was adopted by Lynn Knox.
Adopting little Joey from the Lancaster shelter was quite a challenge. It was a two hour trip to Lancaster and they would not let me put a hold on him. When I got there he had a hold on him from a Rescue Group After a little "discussion" and a phone call to the person who had the hold on him, they released him to me.
He was so sad and dirty, but after I got him home, he was a different dog. He explored my house for over an hour and got acquainted with my other animals. He made himself right at home -- settling down in the dog beds that the others won't use.
He is an old little guy, maybe as old as 15, but his heart is strong and he is quite feisty. Joey loves to eat. Stands beside me and barks until I put his bowl on the floor – and heaven help anyone who wants to take it away.
I have had him for almost two years now and he has brought me many smiles. He is being spoiled -- it feels so good to have a little Yorkie face looking back at me again!!!
Thanks to you Ric, Joey is living the good life!!!
I know I said we had an entry of 6. But 1 of our little ones was absent. Joey is older now and Lynn thought the stress of being away from home all day would not be good for him, so she left him at home.
Joey is a special little dog and I wanted you to know about him. This is his bio from last year.
We hope to see Joey at our Yorkie Rescue Parade next year.
